GTCR to Invest in Sorenson Communications

SALT LAKE CITY (September 21, 2005) – GTCR Golder Rauner, LLC (GTCR), one of the nation's leading private equity firms, today announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to make a major investment in Sorenson Communications, the country's leading provider of video relay services (VRS) and equipment for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. The transaction is scheduled to close in November 2005. Though terms of the investment were not disclosed, GTCR will become the majority shareholder of Sorenson Communications upon completion of the transaction.

The current Sorenson Communications management team will remain in place and all employees will be retained. Founder James Lee Sorenson will change his role from CEO to member of the company's newly-created board of directors. Current Sorenson Communications COO Patrick Nola will become the company's new CEO. Mr. Sorenson, Mr. Nola and other members of Sorenson Communications' senior management team will retain meaningful ownership positions in the company. Sorenson Communications will retain its name and its Utah headquarters.

"This transaction represents a major milestone for the company and is a testament to the hard work, innovation, and dedication of our employees nationwide," said Sorenson. "It is gratifying to find an equity partner that shares our vision and commitment to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. We look forward to working with GTCR to provide our users with the best communication products and services available."

Nola added, "We warmly welcome GTCR to help us build on the success we have achieved to date, and expand our efforts to meet the burgeoning demand for video relay and IP relay services from the 28 million-strong deaf and hard-of-hearing community. Our videophone technology has transformed the way deaf individuals communicate, and we have our sights set on even broader applications of this technology in the future."

Philip Canfield, a principal at GTCR, said, "Sorenson Communications' focus on leading-edge video communication technology solutions and high-quality interpreting services for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals has enabled the company to become the market leader. We look forward to working closely with management as it continues to grow the business and extend the company's strong industry leadership."

Lehman Brothers acted as exclusive financial advisor to Sorenson Communications in connection with the transaction.
